Abstract

Jean-Marc Siroën nous propose dans ce beau texte « une galerie de portraits » (avec en son centre J.M. Keynes). Nombre de ces intellectuels sont désormais des classiques. Au sein du groupe de Bloomsbury qui est en rupture avec le conservatisme victorien, il les fait vivre dans leurs interactions, leurs doutes, leurs idéaux et contradictions dans une période historique dramatique. Cette épaisseur humaine s'illustre dans les grands débats de l'époque. On lit bien sûr les éternelles interrogations sur le pacifisme, ses limites mais aussi la question des réparations. Dans le texte ci-dessous, l'essentiel n'est pas le débat purement économique (en contrepoint), mais un moment ou des personnages clefs se croisent sur un avenir incertain. Avec J.M. Siroën, nous touchons la réalité de cette dramatique première moitié du XXème siècle et des terribles années 30. L'auteur évoque les racines du monde à venir pour la 2eme moitié du siècle. On relèvera que tout en se méfiant du risque d'analogie historique, les résonances contemporaines sont en effet inquiétantes.
