Abstract

This work explores Covid-19 policies adopted by small island economies (SIEs), comparing them both with non-island economies and between independent and non-independent SIEs. An exclusive database of 84 SIEs is used to study the actions taken and their speed of implementation. The results indicate that SIEs took action earlier than non-SIEs, but no clear difference was found between non-independent and independent SIEs. The insularity factor seems to influence the speed of taking action, while independence status showed no significant impact.
