Abstract

This article discusses the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in a Lebanese context. The objective of this study is to understand the commitment of the Lebanese Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) towards sustainable economic development. It also aims to study the social visage of CSR, while focusing on the manager-employee relationship. A questionnaire completed by thirty SME owner-managers from different sectors shows that the managers of these SMEs integrate unintentionally the CSR concept ; and that there is a relationship between organizational culture, the adoption of social practices, and business performance. The results showed that, when combining their social concerns with their business operations, owner-managers expect in exchange, a return on CSR, in a "win-win" bilateral relation. The establishment of a definite and stimulating social culture within the SME, along with a framework of fair practices, would be appreciated.
