Abstract

This special issue of the journal "Signes, Discours et Sociétés" focuses on the solidarity economy in Turkey. In collaboration with the FMSH and the RIPESS network, teacher-researchers and civil society actors (cooperatives, associations, collectives and foundations) have examined the current state of solidarity initiatives in Turkey. These initiatives have been appearing for the past decade and have taken over several sectors, from education to food. All these initiatives tend to demonstrate that economic models that are not based on the quest for profit are viable, inclusive, sustainable and conducive to territorial development that respects ecological issues. The contributions in this issue are largely based on the action-research method, which enables us to share our knowledge, experience and theoretical concepts. Of course, this issue does not cover all solidarity initiatives in Turkey, nor all sectors, but its aim is to relate emblematic social experiences and to encourage further collective work on the solidarity economy.
