Abstract

More and more retail companies are trying to integrate blockchain into their information systems in order to improve the performance of their supply chain. Although many research studies have highlighted the potential use of blockchain for the supply chain, few empirical studies have examined the effective use of this technology, especially in the retail sector. Based on a case study of a large French retailer, this article discusses the effective use of blockchain for the retail supply chain. It highlights that while the benefits of using blockchain for the relationship with retail customers are well established, the exploitation of blockchain's properties for the relationship with other actors in the chain is more ambiguous, raising questions about the relationship between control and trust between them.
