Abstract

Cette recherche porte sur l'étude de la relation entre la Performance Socialement Responsable des entreprises cotées et la gestion du résultat en Europe. Cette relation est modérée par les caractéristiques institutionnelles des deux environnements des pays du code-law vs. common-law. Nous proposons d'opérer une différence entre ces deux groupes de pays (Leuz et al. 2003). Nous nous appuyons sur la théorie néo-institutionnelle et les théories éthiques qui semblent pertinentes pour expliquer cette relation. Notre échantillon porte sur 12 pays européens et sur une période de 2006 à 2019. Les résultats empiriques valident notre hypothèse et montrent que cette relation est plus fortement modérée par les pays du code-law vs. common-law. En complément, cette modération s'exerce sur la gestion du résultat à la baisse dans les pays du code-law, alors qu'elle s'applique sur la gestion du résultat à la hausse dans les pays du common-law. Les résultats réalisés avec la performance social et la performance environnemental confirment ceux obtenus avec la performance RSE. En parallèle, les pays du code-law (vs. common-law) considèrent davantage l'ensemble des attentes des parties prenantes de l'entreprise (vs. que les seules actionnaires). Ceux-ci publient une information financière comparable, fiable et transparente à l'ensemble des parties prenantes de l'entreprise en Europe.
