Abstract

Our article reports on a seminar on edutainment and, more specifically, on the misuse of leisure games in training. As part of our Master 2 in Human Resources Management and Transformation of Work and Organizations (GRH-TTO) at IAE Paris-Est, we had the opportunity to devise awareness-raising sessions on academically recognized managerial concepts of our choice, based on four mass-market games: Tiny Epic Zombies, Critical Fondation-Saison 1, Intrigue and Rituels. The one-day course enabled us to see that several of the games implicitly incorporated theoretical management knowledge, and that it was therefore sometimes quite easy to use them in training. What's more, we also discovered that trainers need certain skills, such as creativity, imagination and innovation, if they are to successfully hijack games. All these aspects seem relevant to us in proposing realistic and safe management situations without generating real consequences for the organization.
