Abstract

La période actuelle constitue un tournant pour la France en matière de gestion des déchets radioactifs. La déclaration d'utilité publique du site d'enfouissement de Bure est en cours d'instruction. Ce pays étant un des plus avancés dans les technologies et les infrastructures de la filière de retraitement et de stockage de ces déchets, c'est le moment de faire le point sur la question, y compris dans un contexte européen. D'autant plus que l'ensemble de la filière nucléaire continue de faire l'objet de beaucoup de controverses dans les sociétés démocratiques et de stratégies nationales très variées. Ces questions sont paradoxalement assez urgentes à régler tout en impliquant le très long terme, et difficiles à trancher en raison de fortes incertitudes à la fois techniques, économiques et sociétales.
