Abstract

This contribution studies the position of digital sales platforms as intermediaries within food supply chains. We analyse the dyad producer platform in view of RDT. Our results show that the brokerage strategies result in differentiated dependency and power relationships between the platform and the producers. The iungens platforms exercise less power over producers and are more resilient. Conduct platforms are less dependent than producers and are more likely to be in a growth situation. This study leads us to propose a new classification of brokerage strategies based on the form of the intermediation (tertius or conduit) on the one hand and on the strategic orientation of the intermediary (iungens or gaudens) on the other.
