Business Name Changes: the French Experience

Abstract

Cet article fait part de la situation française en matière de changement de nom. Il vise tout d'abord à expliquer les raisons du nouvel intérêt accordé au nom de l'entreprise et à quantifier les changements de nom. Il s'agit ensuite d'évaluer les différentes classifications des changements de nom et de proposer une typologie basée sur une méthodologie rigoureuse. L'accent est mis particulièrement sur les petites et moyennes entreprises (PME). En effet, si les changements les plus médiatiques sont généralement ceux des grandes sociétés cotées en Bourse, la très grande majorité des changements de nom concernent des PME. Le principal apport de ce papier a trait à la mise en évidence d'une typologie des changements basée sur le degré de nouveauté du nom.
