Abstract

The present contribution explores the dynamic of collective strategies through appropriation of management tools. The authors use a longitudinal survey based on participant observation within a group of dairy farmers negotiating with their buyer, emphasizing the tools that regulate this transaction. They show that stakeholders proactively shape the management tools to implement their value capture or value creation strategies. This appropriation process by stakeholders with different intents generates a common knowledge among stakeholders, precursor of a new collective strategy. In addition, this strategic construction dynamic raises paradoxes notably those of belonging, specific to collective strategies, and requires their management.
