Performance of Information Systems of Public Organizations: An exploratory study

Abstract

The Information Systems of public organizations (ISPO) have become complex and difficult to master in the absence of the necessary support measures. This study seeks to determine the current state of the insufficiency of these Information Systems (IS), and to formulate recommendations for building efficient IS. Thus, this article presents the results of an exploratory study on ISPOs following a survey of managers working in these organizations. The study analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of ISPOs with a view to proposing avenues for improvement. This study shows that despite the efforts made, public organizations must work more to implement the principles of IS governance which provide relevant answers to several gaps. This governance consists of establishing mechanisms and rules of good practice which allows for instoring IS strategic alignment, creating of value by the use of IS, optimizing resources management, managing the risks inherent in the use of IS and monitoring the measurement of IS performance.
