Abstract

The literature sets out an intensified workload of paramedical executives in french hospitals which has an impact on health at work. Structural reorganizations have also changed their workplace. In which circumstances this context can be creator or destroyer of resources allowing to paramedical executives to face the demands ? This issue is adressed by the concept of "Caravan Resources Passageways" (CRP) arising out of the conservation of resources theory (Hobfoll, 1998, 2001; Halbesleben et al., 2014). A case study is about the paramedical supervision in a hospital. The theoretical contribution rests in the identification of six mechanisms by which a CRP can change their perceived lost or gain of resources. The CRP provide mechanisms for allocating resources, invalidating resources, broadcasting signals to invest in resources, building gains and losses, strengthening or alleviating the need for resources and restoring resources. The managerial impact is to identify the sources of resources to influence the quality of working life for paramedical staff.
