Troisième consultation référendaire calédonienne : des enjeux économiques non négligeables, mais finalement secondaires

Abstract

La Nouvelle-Calédonie vient de connaître le 12 décembre 2021 son troisième référendum prévu par l'Accord de Nouméa. Loin de régler tous les problèmes, ou de répondre à l'ensemble des questions soulevées par la possible accession à « la pleine souveraineté » ou « l'indépendance » du territoire, cette consultation marque au moins la fin d'une époque dans les débats. Au plan économique, les interrogations fondamentales demeurent. S'il est utile de le comprendre, il est aussi nécessaire d'en relativiser l'importance, les processus à l'œuvre restant viscéralement politiques et identitaires.
