Le terme est utilisé dans d'autres domaines, en mathématiques pour définir des grappes – la traduction littérale de cluster –, homogènes et différencier des sous-ensembles, en informatique où il est question de nœuds et réseaux, d'interconnexion et de communauté culturelle quand il s'agit de numérique et de digital.
