Abstract

La crise sanitaire des derniers mois a été sans précédent et elle a conduit à des adaptations inédites pour l'appareil d'observation statistique. Quel premier bilan peut-on tirer de cette période ? On examine trois questions. La première porte sur les instruments de mesure : des sources de données non-conventionnelles ont été mobilisées, ceci doit-il marquer un tournant vers une nouvelle façon de suivre la conjoncture économique ? Répondre à cette question impose de remettre à plat les avantages et limites des différents types de sources, car aucune n'est universellement idéale pour tous les types de contexte. La deuxième question porte sur l'objet même de cette mesure. A-t-on bien mesuré ce qu'il fallait mesurer ? La crise n'a-t-elle pas révélé de nouvelles limites du PIB, rendant encore plus pressant le besoin d'indicateurs alternatifs ? Que la comptabilité nationale ne mesure qu'une partie de ce qui compte et que d'autres indicateurs soient nécessaires ne fait aucun doute. [Premières lignes]
