Abstract

In this article, the author questions the complex links between global crises and wars. In the first part, he preliminarily develops the notions of crisis (sub-part 1) and war (sub-part 2), in order to re-situate them both in the current neoclassical mainstream in economics and in heterodox thoughts, with particular emphasis on Marxism. In a second part, it is the nature of the relationships between global crises and wars that is examined from an economic point of view, from both theoretical and historical angles (sub-part 1). Then, the systemic contradictions that such crises-wars relationships contribute to accelerate are analyzed (sub-part 2). Finally, the readers' attention is oriented toward new underlying risks, in particular those which have recently arisen in the context of the new "Cold War" between the United States and China, with illustrations proposed around reflections on the Sino-US trade war, as well as on the dollar-yuan currency war (sub-part 3).
