Abstract

En France, le chômage a moins augmenté que dans d'autres pays européens au cours de la crise, mais la reprise tarde à s'amorcer de façon solide. Cette moindre réactivité du marché du travail aux mouvements conjoncturels, qui pèse sur les marges des entreprises, et donc sur les investissements et la croissance futurs, a été reliée à la lourdeur et la rigidité du code du travail. Selon Xavier Timbeau, l'explication est moins simple qu'il n'y paraît : qu'on se place d'un point de vue théorique ou empirique, le lien entre protection de l'emploi et chômage est loin d'être solidement établi. Il en est de même des effets du mode dominant de négociation collective sur l'adaptation aux chocs macroéconomiques. [Résumé éditeur]
