Abstract

Depuis dix ans, l'emballage a été conforté dans ses multiples fonctions mais son rôle s'est accru. De nouvelles obligations l'ont contraint, mais lui permettent aussi de montrer toujours plus ses capacités d'innovation, quel que soit le matériau qui le compose. Reflet des modes de consommation, partenaire de la sécurité du consommateur, révélateur des préoccupations environnementales, l'emballage s'inscrit dans la vie des produits qu'il contient. Il est aussi à la croisée de la protection du produit et de sa communication. Il est enfin considéré souvent comme un média à part entière transmettant des éléments immédiats d'identification par la sélection des marques qu'il porte mais aussi par les valeurs de représentation qui sont transmis par ces marques mais aussi par les illustrations, forme et couleurs. Après avoir défini ce qu'il recouvre et son rôle dans l'histoire, nous nous attacherons aux éléments qui le composent (matériau, forme, graphisme, couleur) et qui permettent d'en exprimer plus concrètement les grandes fonctions. Enfin, nous établirons que l'emballage est un contrat qui lie juridiquement producteur, distributeur et consommateur.
