Abstract

L'élevage est une activité économique qui participe à plusieurs égards au développement des territoires et à la bonne santé des populations. C'est une activité, en ce qui concerne le petit bétail, est pratiquée depuis la nuit de temps au Kwango. En effet, depuis les temps immémoriaux et anciens, les habitants du Kwango ont toujours élevé le petit élevage . Il n'y a pas un seul village où le petit élevage n'est pas pratiqué à travers la province. Avec la sédentarisation et la croissance démographique l'homme chasseur fut amené à aménager autour de lui une place pour les animaux sauvages en leur assurant la protection et les soins de tout genre, pour satisfaire les besoins de la communauté en viande, lait, peau, etc. Ce fut le début de l'élevage. Quant au gros élevage à base exclusivement des bovins, il est de pratique récente au Kwango et remonte à quelques années avant l'indépendance politique du Congo qui est intervenue le 30 juin 1960, certainement vers les années 1950.
