Abstract

Les activités basiques de transport et d'entreposage (qualifiées de « low cost »), assurées par les Prestataires de Services Logistiques (PSL), redeviennent d'actualité. Cette tendance peut étonner, alors que depuis plus d'une trentaine d'années l'industrie de la prestation de services logistiques connaît un essor considérable en proposant des activités de plus en plus créatrices de valeur ajoutée (qualifiées de « high tech »). Cet article questionne ce phénomène afin de mieux comprendre les tendances actuelles qui marquent l'industrie de la prestation logistique. Dans un premier temps, il est analysé comment les démarches d'externalisation mises en œuvre par les industriels et les distributeurs au cours des dernières décennies ont permis aux PSL de devenir de véritables acteurs stratégiques quasiment incontournables sur les chaînes logistiques. Fort de cette analyse et à partir de transformations observées actuellement dans le secteur automobile en France, l'accent est mis, dans un second temps, sur les possibilités de réintégration qui menacent les PSL et sur les stratégies de développement qui leur permettraient de faire face à ce risque potentiel.
