Abstract

Les initiatives communautaires lient étroitement développement rural et environnement. Ces politiques environnementales et de développement rural sont en fait convergentes et de nature très semblable. Après avoir montré les relations entre l'espace et le développement, à travers l'histoire économique et l'histoire des idées, l'auteur précise l'actuelle dissociation entre activité agricole et monde rural, même si l'agriculture occupe encore très largement le territoire. Les problèmes environnementaux ne se posent pas dans les mêmes termes sur l'ensemble de l'espace rural. De même cet espace est loin d'être homogène et les possibilités diffèrent. Aussi convient-il, dans une première partie d'étudier la diversité de l'espace rural et dans une seconde partie de voir quelles sont les politiques à mettre en œuvre.
