Technical progress and social relationships. The case of vegetable producers in the French area Roussillon

Abstract

L'adoption de la technique de production en "hors-sol" pour la production de tomates dans le Roussillon est d'abord le fait d'individus que distinguent certaines caracteristiques sociales: mutants professionnels, migrants, voire mutants-migrants. Les maraichers de souche, jeunes, souvent diplomes, issus de vieilles familles de "jardiniers", s'engagent a leur tour dans cette production. La grande heterogeneite sociale des adoptants rend difficile la mise en place d'un groupe technique. L'examen des diverses formes de rapport a la technique (et a l'innovation) chez les maraichers hors-sol remet en cause la "theorie" de l'agriculture duale, tout en invitant a la mise en place de "services" plus souples, mieux adaptes.
