Abstract

La modélisation de l'effet des enfants sur les comportements des consommateurs a donné lieu à une littérature abondante et controversée. Ceci provient d'une part du fait que la mesure du coût de l'enfant s'avère nécessaire pour répondre à de nombreuses questions économiques, et d'autre part du fait que subsistent des ambiguïtés quant au champ d'application des modèles existant à l'heure actuelle. L'intégration des caractéristiques socio-démographiques à l'outil micro-économique conduit à la construction d'échelles d'équivalence, conçues comme des indices du coût des caractéristiques, et utilisées en analyse de la demande et pour la mesure du bien-être. Après un exposé du problème fondamental d'identification des échelles à partir des données de demande, et l'indication de ce que mesurent réellement les échelles d'équivalence, l'auteur présente les modèles d'Engel, de Rothbarth, de Barten et de Prais et Houthakker, qui sont les principaux modèles utilisés.
