Abstract

L'étude des stratégies foncières des agriculteurs dans quatre régions où l'offre démographique de terres agricoles est élevée montre que ceux-ci adaptent leur demande d'agrandissement à l'offre, et qu'on ne peut pas y parler de déprise foncière, même si des facteurs de risques subsistent. La disponibilité en main-d'oeuvre joue un rôle déterminant dans la demande foncière des agriculteurs. Le développement économique des exploitations passe la plupart du temps par la croissance foncière. Il existe un seuil de 70 ha au delà duquel les exploitations tendent à ne plus s'agrandir : ainsi une plus grande disponibilité de terres n'entraîne pas le développement de systèmes de production extensifs mais donne plus de libertés aux agriculteurs dans leur recherche d'une combinaison optimale de leurs facteurs de production.
