Abstract

Dans les sociétés traditionnelles, le sol est presque entièrement dédié aux activités agricoles pour nourrir les populations, ou à la sylviculture pour fournir les matériaux de construction et l'énergie de base. Dans diverses circonstances, ces sociétés ont pu épuiser les sols, ou arriver à des destructions locales. Mais aujourd'hui, certaines formes de développement économique conduisent à des dégradations physiques, chimiques et biologiques massives, remettant en cause le rôle du sol comme filtre et support de vie et, par voie de conséquence, comme outil économique. Pour tenter de voir comment les effets des pollutions dans le sol se manifestent dans les diverses sphères (économie, santé, environnement), la première partie de l'article présente un schéma général d'analyse. La deuxième partie évoque la relation entre sol et agriculture en liaison avec l'intensification et les politiques économiques, et la troisième partie est centrée sur les pollutions d'origines industrielle et domestique.
