Abstract

Cet article propose une extension des modèles de Carlino et Mills (1987) et de Boarnet (1994) en vue de tester en quoi et comment la taille et la croissance urbaine influencent les dynamiques rurales d'emploi et de population en France. Sur un échantillon de communes provenant de six régions françaises, on montre que, à la fois, la taille du centre urbain d'influence et le taux de croissance de l'emploi et de la population urbaine affectent les évolutions de l'emploi et de la population des zones rurales environnantes. Les unités urbaines de taille moyenne semblent avoir l'impact le plus largement positif sur les évolutions des zones rurales placées sous leur influence.
