Abstract

Cet article généralise la notion de séparabilité faible en permettant à certains biens d'appartenir à des groupes distincts. Cette nouvelle notion de séparabilité, la séparabilité latente, est un outil utile pour mettre en évidence des regroupements de biens et de prix. Elle permet en outre d'unifier la notion de séparabilité de la fonction d'utilité, et la théorie de la production domestique. Pour les classes de systèmes de demande les plus couramment employées (linéaire, translog, AIDS), les auteurs présentent une méthode pour choisir le nombre de groupes séparables de façon homothétique. Une méthode détaillée pour explorer la composition des groupes séparables est également présentée. Ces méthodes sont appliquées aux données de l'enquête "Budget des familles" britannique basée sur la consommation de 22 produits non durables et services.
