Rural labour markets : between paternalism influence and job matching difficulties

Abstract

Dans cet article, l'espace rural est considéré comme caractérisé principalement dans la faible densité d'emploi et de population ainsi que par la petite taille des collectifs de travail. L'effet de ces caractéristiques sur le marché du travail est analysé à partir de deux hypothèses dont les prédictions sont testées : difficultés d'appariement entre l'offre et la demande de travail, présence de relations paternalistes. Les difficultés d'appariement apparaissent jouer surtout un rôle dans la sélection des acteurs intervenant sur les marchés du travail ruraux. Les règles de formation des salaires et la stabilité de la relation d'emploi semblent principalement dépendre des relations qui s'établissent, en dehors de la production, entre employés et employeurs. En conclusion, les conséquences du poids des rapports de travail paternalistes sur la compétitivité économique des espaces ruraux sont discutées.
