Abstract

Dans son Apologie de l'abbé Galiani, Diderot attaque la conception physiocratique du droit absolu de propriété et lui oppose le principe de l'utilité générale qui en justifie la limitation. Cet article interprète la critique de Diderot à partir des catégories républicaines : la protection contre la domination d'autrui y apparaît comme la finalité de la société, et la misère comme une forme, extrême, de la dépendance vis-à-vis d'autrui, contre laquelle l'autorité politique légitime doit lutter.
