Abstract

Sous affichage micro-économique un article de fond, paru dans le n 206 (Economie Rurale, novembre-décembre 1991) et signé JC Tirel, dissimule en fait une véritable analyse de l'évolution contemporaine du secteur agricole dans son ensemble. A l'unisson de la plupart des conjoncturistes, experts et professionnels patentés du monde rural, l'auteur brosse un décor peu reluisant et énonce des perspectives plutôt sombres pour notre agriculture. Si l'on excepte quelques propos subsidiaires, l'essentiel du diagnostic formulé par JC Tirel repose sur une argumentation quadripartite que l'on peut condenser sous les rubriques suivantes : abaissement des prix ; blocage de la production ; alourdissement du capital ; dégradation des marges. Nous vous proposons de réfuter crescendo ces quatre points grâce à une observation minutieuse des données et à l'adéquation de certains calculs ; nous replacerons les années récentes dans la durée du moyen et même du long terme, le recul statistique permettant souvent de remonter aux débuts de la 5e République.
