Typologie, déterminants et spécificités des alliances dans l'industrie agro-alimentaire française

Abstract

Au cours des deux dernières décennies, l'évolution des relations de coopération inter-firmes a suscité une littérature abondante tant au niveau des analyses théoriques que des études empiriques. Toutefois, l'industrie agro-alimentaire n'a pas fait l'objet d'analyses spécifiques concernant la pratique des alliances stratégiques. Dans le cadre d'une démarche empirique, fondée sur l'exploitation d'une base de données recensant 219 accords conclus sur la période 1988-1997 cet article confirme que les alliances constituent une pratique significative dans ce secteur et qu'elles obéissent à deux logiques principales, l'une verticale de chaîne de valeur et l'autre horizontale de marché Cette analyse permet de proposer une typologie originale des alliances et de comparer ces comportements à ceux observés dans d'autres industries. En particulier, elle rappelle la nécessité de tenir compte des dimensions caractéristiques des métiers et des activités des firmes de l'agro-alimentaire, et de l'existence de contraintes technologiques et de modes d'innovation particuliers.
