L'environnement des marchés à terme de produits agricoles dans l'Union européenne

Abstract

Les marchés à terme sont des outils de gestion de risque pour les entreprises confrontées à une forte volatilité des prix sur le marché physique. Les producteurs, les utilisateurs de matières premières et les négociants sont intéressés par le développement de tels outils afin de réguler leurs risques financiers. Le premier objectif de ce texte est de présenter le contexte du risque de marché et de montrer comment ce risque naturel peut nuire à la performance d'une filière. Le second objectif est de montrer que plusieurs formules de gestion privée du risque existent, et peuvent cohabiter, sans qu'aucunes ne représentent la solution parfaite aux difficultés nées des fluctuations naturelles des prix. Cependant, parmi les techniques de gestion du risque, les marchés à terme présentent un intérêt particulier : ils forment des prix à terme "justes" qui permettent aux entreprises d'adopter des stratégies commerciales très variées et bien adaptées aux besoins de nombreuses situations.
