Abstract

L'homogénéisation des comportements familiaux est un thème récurrent dans la description des évolutions contemporaines. L'idée s'accorde bien à celle d'un recul des distinctions de classe. Elle conduit malheureusement trop souvent à négliger les études de démographie différentielle, avant même que le phénomène soit pleinement vérifié. C'est d'autant plus dommage que ces analyses sont des révélateurs puissants des contraintes socio-économiques pesant sur les choix individuels. L'auteur illustre par le célibat des agriculteurs l'intérêt d'étudier le comportement d'un groupe social, de le suivre au cours du temps et de le comparer au comportement des autres groupes. Il reflète ainsi le maintien d'une longue tradition française, confortée depuis la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale par la mise au point d'un outil particulièrement efficace : la nomenclature des professions et catégories socioprofessionnelles.
