Abstract

La qualité fait l'objet d'une littérature abondante, mais rares sont les approches scientifiques du problème. En particulier, celles qui peuvent donner un éclairage économique sur l'utilisation d'un tel outil de gestion. L'objet de cet ouvrage est précisément de présenter une modélisation du phénomène. Comment comprendre l'existence, la logique et l'évolution de critères de qualité, autrement que comme des données culturelles allant de soi ? Issue de recherches doctorales, la réponse permet de clarifier ce que la qualité, en tant que vecteur d'analyse, peut signifier quant à la compréhension des mécanismes d'organisation dans les firmes et d'échanges sur les marchés. Elle se développe en trois parties. Dans la première, est établi un état des lieux historique et théorique sur la question. Dans une deuxième partie, est exposé le socle conceptuel nécessaire à la construction d'une économie de la qualité : il s'agit de la théorie des conventions dont l'auteur propose une synthèse. Ce détour théorique permet, dans une troisième partie, de présenter une grille de lecture originale des phénomènes qualitatifs. La qualité est repérée comme un construit socio-économique, dont on peut décrire les éléments constitutifs, leur modification et la génétique qu'ils induisent sur le système économique tout entier. A l'aide d'outils analytiques simples il est possible alors de présenter une véritable économie de la qualité. Ouvrage de synthèse théorique, Qualité et Théorie des conventions permet de renouveler la lecture des pratiques observées, et de donner aux phénomènes qualitatifs et à leur gestion un statut conceptuel cohérent.
