Conséquences économiques de l'emploi de la BST dans la production laitière en France

Abstract

Cette étude a été réalisée en 1986/87 à la demande de la Société MONSANTO, entreprise productrice, dans les prochaines années, d'une hormone de croissance (Somatotropine bovine: BST) dont l'effet est d'augmenter la production des vaches laitières. Les conséquences de l'emploi de la BST ont été analysées, au niveau microéconomique de l'exploitation laitière, par des simulations budgétaires effectuées sur quatre cas types d'élevage représentatifs de différentes situations structurelles en France. Trois hypothèses d'alimentation des animaux ont été testées. La dernière partie de l'étude porte sur les conséquences de l'usage de la BST sur l'économie de la production laitière (approche macroéconomique). Une projection démographique du nombre des éleveurs, ainsi que des hypothèses d'évolution des quotas et des rendements laitiers ont permis de bâtir des scenarios d'évolution, avec et sans utilisation de l'hormone.
