Abstract

Cet article souligne quelques aspect économiques de l'association cacao-cocotier par les petits planteurs de la Malaisie péninsulaire. Dans un contexte d'imperfection des marchés financiers, en l'absence de systèmes de retraite bien développés, les planteurs utilisent les cocotiers pour se procurer des ressources pendant leur retraite. Mais ces stratégies dépendent de la disponibilité de jeunes travailleurs dans la zone. Associer le cacao au cocotier apporte une solution au problème de la retraite et permet de maintenir une main-d'oeuvre jeune. Les caractéristiques économiques de l'offre de cacao dépendent du contexte du marché local du travail.
