Huiles végétales : un marché en pleine expansion

Abstract

La production et le commerce mondial des produits oléagineux (graines, huiles, tourteaux) ont connu un développement considérable au cours des trente dernières années. Face à une demande mondiale en forte croissance pour l'alimentation humaine et de façon plus récente pour les biocarburants (huiles) et pour l'alimentation animale sous l'effet des augmentations démographiques et des revenus par tête, le soja et le palme ont connu des progressions particulièrement importantes. Dans le même temps, le marché mondial s'est fortement concentré aussi bien au niveau de l'offre (Brésil, Argentine, Etats-Unis, Malaisie, Indonésie) que de la demande (en particulier la Chine, l'Afrique du Nord et le Moyen-Orient ainsi que certains pays en cours d'industrialisation d'Asie et d'Amérique du Sud venant en complément des importateurs traditionnels d'Europe et du Japon). Malgré certaines possibilités de substitution entre produits issus de graines oléagineuses différentes, en l'absence de mécanismes régulateurs au niveau international, ces marchés restent caractérisés par de fortes fluctuations qui affectent particulièrement les PVD les plus peuplés qui sont globalement de plus en plus déficitaires.
