Retour ou recul du religieux chez les jeunes ?

Abstract

Durant les années soixante-dix, les études concernant le catholicisme parlaient volontiers de recul et de crise (pratiques, vocations, affaire Lefebvre, etc). A l'inverse, actuellement, elles s'inscriraient plutôt sous le signe de ce "retour du religieux" attesté par le "réveil de l'islam", par le développement des nouveaux mouvements religieux, dont le renouveau charismatique catholique, et par l'impact du pape Jean-Paul II; Les jeunes, qui paraissaient être les plus marqués par cette désaffection relative, participent eux-mêmes à ce retour dont ils sont parfois le fer de lance. D'un autre côté, cependant, au sein du catholicisme, les vocations stagnent et les pratiques religieuses restent très basses, la catéchisation baisse, le mariage religieux recule et l'action catholique ne trouve pas son nouveau souffle ni son éventuel remplaçant.
