Les jeunes Français et le christianisme

Abstract

La mise en perspective historique permet de comprendre pourquoi le christianisme occupe une place beaucoup plus importante en Pologne qu'en France. Schématiquement, il s'agit d'un côté, d'un catholicisme historiquement identifié à la nation (face aux prétentions russes ou germaniques), solidaire des ouvriers face à un patronat initialement allemand et protestant, puis symbole de la résistance au communisme ; de l'autre, d'un catholicisme tardivement rallié à la république, longtemps lié à la droite et représentant aujourd'hui un modèle d'autorité et de morale éloigné en particulier de la mentalité juvénile. Après avoir fait le point de l'évolution des attitudes religieuses des jeunes français, je proposerai une interprétation des transformations en cours puis j'analyserai la signification des trois pôles que fait toujours ressortir l'analyse factorielle des correspondances : le pôle du christianisme "confessant" (de la foi), le pôle du christianisme "culturel" (hérité) et de pôle de l'"humanisme séculier". Précisons que les protestants ne représentent que 2 % environ des jeunes, les orthodoxes, 0,1 %, les juifs 0,5 % et les musulmans, 4 %.
