Sens, valeurs et religion chez les jeunes Français

Abstract

Analysant les recherches et enquêtes d'opinion effectuées depuis une trentaine d'années, cet article aboutit à plusieurs constats et hypothèses sur les systèmes de valeurs et de références des jeunes. Se confirme la méfiance à l'égard de toute conception se prétendant globale, absolue, définitive, mais pas le "vide": en fait les jeunes se situent principalement en termes axiologiques (valeurs) et pragmatiques (existentiels), la religion comme l'idéologie étant elles-mêmes soumises à cette restructuration. Plus précisément, reprenant la notion weberienne de "polythéisme des valeurs" (pluralisme conflictuel), on montre qu'un "monothéisme" des valeurs collectives de base s'est désormais constitue en Europe occidentale (démocratie, noyau des droits de l'homme, solution négociée des conflits sociaux). Ces tendances sont simplement plus accentuées chez les jeunes. Une forme vulgarisée de cet article est parue dans la revue: Il est une FOI No 7-8 de 1988, pp. 22-25.
