Abstract

En Europe occidentale, le niveau et le contenu du "sentiment religieux" varient considérablement d'un pays à l'autre : quelle y est la part des régimes confessionnels et scolaires ? Autrement dit, la religiosité est-elle plus forte lorsque les confessions et l'enseignement religieux bénéficient d'un statut - avantageux - et, inversement est-elle plus faible si les Églises sont séparées de l'État, si le clergé doit s'autofinancer, si les édifices cultuels sont à la charge des paroisses, si l'enseignement public est laïque ? Évidemment, on peut penser que la réponse est en partie incluse dans la question, dans la mesure où ces différences de statut reflètent la place historiquement accordée à la religion dans chaque pays, mais jusqu'à quel point précisément ?
