Pertinence de la comptabilisation en juste valeur pour les banques africaines : une étude empirique

Abstract

Le modèle comptable basé sur la méthode d'évaluation à la juste valeur, fondé sur l'évaluation des actifs et des passifs à la valeur de marché, suppose l'existence de marchés financiers efficients. Dans les pays en voie de développement, notamment les pays africains, la question de la pertinence de leur utilisation peut être posée dans un contexte où les marchés sont insuffisamment développés et peu liquides. Les banques utilisant les IFRS, notamment les normes IAS32 et IAS39, sont particulièrement sensibles aux variations de juste valeur, en raison du poids important des actifs financiers dans leur bilan. Notre étude se propose d'évaluer la pertinence des IFRS pour les banques africaines. Pour cela, nous mesurons relation entre le rendement de l'action et plusieurs indicateurs comptables traduisant la performance économique, en distinguant les banques utilisant la juste valeur de celles utilisant la valeur historique. Les résultats montrent que le résultat opérationnel, et le comprehensive income, indicateur intégrant les variations de la juste valeur et divulgué par les entreprises utilisant les IFRS, ont un pouvoir explicatif plus élevé de la rentabilité des actions pour les banques divulguant leurs comptes en normes IFRS que pour celles en normes locales, ce qui plaide en faveur de la pertinence des normes internationales.
