Abstract

This research investigates people's representations of non-food waste, and morespecifically of solid waste. Thanks to qualitative data collected on a sample of 399 subjects (free verbal associations and open-ended questions), it shows how people represent solid waste (what, when and how), its causes (internal and external responsibility) and its consequences. A complete model of solid waste is proposed, and several points of consideration in terms of prevention communication are discussed.
