Abstract

Workplace bullying is often studied using an individual approach that is centred on a pathological "play" between a torturer and a victim. Conversely, this article employs an organisational approach, as our goal is to analyze the organisational antecedents of workplace bullying. Our study is based on a quantitative analysis of the organisational factors (work organization, working conditions, social relations, and job resources) that are related to workplace bullying. We conduct binomial logistic regressions on data from the Sumer National Survey. Our results play down the influence of individual factors such as age, tenure or sex and strongly emphasise the influence of work organization, working conditions, social relations, and job resources on workplace bullying. These research results have enabled us to examine a number of practical implications.
