Abstract

La méthode d'évaluation contingente a connu, au cours des années 80, un développement rapide dû en grande partie à une forte demande d'expertise. Celle-ci est venue de la nécessité de mieux justifier les décisions publiques touchant à l'environnement, et de la demande d'évaluation de dommages environnementaux dans les procès. L'effort d'intégration de la sphère non marchande dans le calcul économique a donc permis à l'évaluation contingente de déborder du cadre universitaire. Cette contribution se situe dans cette perspective puisqu'elle vise à faire le point sur les fondements théoriques et les développements récents de la méthode, ainsi que sur les débats et les controverses dont elle fait l'objet.
