Abstract

[Migration is the main driver of demographic changes in France. Indeed, locally, the natural demographic regime does not experience wide variations and its intensity is rarely decisive to explain important demographic variations. The demographic dynamics of a commune, an intermunicipality, a department or a region therefore have as main motor the migratory flows that pass through them. Hence the importance of having a precise knowledge of the migratory movement at the local level, also making it possible to distinguish the effects of migration on the French territories according to the national origin of the people. The study of foreign immigration in France and its influence on territorial development may be the object of two opposing approaches which must first be presented before conducting an objective analysis.]
