Performance collective : quels enseignements des contextes extrêmes ?

Abstract

Jusqu'à très récemment limitée à des organisations particulières, telles que les centrales nucléaires (Gautherau et Hollnagel, 2005), les porte-avions (Roberts et Weick, 1993), les services hospitaliers (Faraj et Xiao, 2006 ; Vashdi et al., 2013) ou encore les expéditions polaires (Aubry et al., 2010) et en haute montagne (Giordano et Musca, 2012 ; Allard-Poési et Giordano, 2015), la question du management en contextes extrêmes prend aujourd'hui tout son sens pour les organisations plus classiques, et les sciences de gestion de façon plus générale. Le qualificatif d'extrême s'applique à un contexte combinant évolutivité, incertitude et risque (Godé, 2015 ; Bouty et al., 2012 ; Aubry et al., 2010). L'évolutivité souligne les aspects rapides, simultanés et discontinus des changements auxquels les individus font face (Lièvre, 2005). L'incertitude renvoie à la probabilité élevée que de tels changements se produisent sans qu'il soit possible d'en déterminer le moment (Weick et Sutcliffe, 2007 ; Bouty et al., 2012). Enfin, les acteurs opérant dans de tels contextes sont exposés à un haut niveau de risque, notamment vital, matériel, et symbolique.
