Abstract

We argue that a better understanding of the relocation process needs a regional analysis based on firms? behavior. We illustrate our assertion by summarizing the results of a research project in the Aquitaine region. The first section proposes a typology and an evaluation of firms? mobility at the regional level. This study puts the stress on the high regional impact of relocations and the difficulties raised by the evaluation itself. Based on interviews allowing an analysis of firms? trajectories, the second section uses relocations as a tool revealing firms? strategies. One can infer some implications for industrial policy.
