Abstract

Les évolutions des principaux modes d'usage des sols en France au cours des 10 dernières années sont d'abord retracées en mettant l'accent sur les transformations de l'espace "rural" (sols agricoles, sols boisés, landes). Le contexte économique de la production agricole et de la réforme de la PAC est ensuite analysé pour justifier un excédent durable de terres agricoles. Trois modèles sont enfin développés pour expliquer l'exode agricole et les possibilités de boisement des terres libérées par des exploitants agricoles d'une part, par des propriétaires fonciers bailleurs d'autre part. L'émergence des préoccupations environnementales, et des contrats associés, est présentée comme un facteur déterminant des choix d'usage des sols dans les prochaines années.
